Here at Campus Kids, our campfires are not quite as dramatic as those seen in movies, with entire clusters of people gathered around a crackling fire, listening to the ghost stories of a counselor, and wondering if the woods around would produce a murderous killer such as that depicted in the story.

No, our campfires are different.  The fire itself is made in an open BBQ-like metal pit.
Before campers got there, counselors had "made fire", and subsequently done the fire dance, invented by David Michaels.

Campers began making their way to the area behind the gym, equipped with pillows and blankets.
Some set up upwind of the fire so as to avoid the smoke which enraptured many s'mores-hungry campers.

Others set up in the Ga-Ga court.
The main attraction of the campfire was, as always, S'mores.  For those of you who do not know what a S'more is, I refer you to the camp-favorite movie, The Sandlot.  "You're killing me, Smalls! This is s'mores stuff. First you take the graham. You stick the chocolate on the graham. Then, you roast the mallow. When the mallows flaming, you stick it on the chocolate and cover it with the other end. Then, you scarf." ~Ham Porter

Counselors distributed the ingredients needed.

With a fire blazing...

...campers and counselors alike roasted marshmallows.

And some did follow the guidelines set forth by The Sandlot.
Everyone was having a great time.  In the spirit of CK, campers could choose what they wanted to do-sit by the fire, sit far away from the fire, hang out with friends and counselors.
It is at this point that a sense of déjà vu hits me.  As everyone was enjoying themselves, a familiar sound could be heard in the distance.  Like a bowling ball hitting a set of freshly laid pins, the sound of thunder overpowered the laughter of campers.

Luckily, many had towels, as the frantic dash to the gym was made.
We created the fire, and we would be the ones to put it out.

After a good amount of time out at the campfire, the senior groups were now in the gym.  The gym became the campfire-simply without the fire itself.  People were still laughing, playing, talking, and having a great time.  Some even decided it was time for a nap.
