Excited?
You should be. You area about to see photos and read stories from a
first hand account of the first ever game of Gladiator played at Campus
Kids. |
Lets get one this
straight first- this game involved no mindless killing of imported animals,
nor bloodthirsty fans yelling for death. This game might share a name
with the great Roman Pastime, but shares few similarities. |
|
|
For days, Staff
members built and organized the wooden barriers that made up the course. |
Until finally, the course was
finished. |
|
|
That night,
Sports coordinators Ryan and Paul explained the rules of the game. |
After noting that
this game, along with Ultimate Frisbee, was invented in New Jersey (Madison,
to be exact) the rules were given to the campers. This game basically
fuses dodge ball and capture the flag. |
Each member of
each team wears a flag around his or her waste. If the flag comes off,
in any way, that person is out of the game. |
|
|
You may try to
hit the other team with one of your colored dodge balls. If your color
ball in any way, shape, or form, touches the other team, that person is out.
You may not run with the dodge ball, but you may roll it to yourself, or pass
it back and forth to a teammate. |
Your team must
guard your own flag, and attempt to retrieve the other team's flag. |
|
|
...and put it
on top of your own. |
The boys and
girls were spilt. The first few games would not be co-ed. And
how could they figure out which gender would go first? |
|
|
Why, a game of
Ro-Sham-Bo! |
The girls, having
won, began. Each team would keep their hand on their base until the
signal was given. |
|
|
|
And with that, they were off. |
|
|
|
Pretty soon,
counselors began to get jealous. So, after 5 camper rounds, they got
their chance. |
|
And I am proud to
say that a certain Web Photo Journalist stole the flag and made the winning
run back to his own flag to secure a Red-Team victory. |
