Often times,
possibly in a James Bond movie, a small object in the sky resembling an oval
will appear in the sky. As it draws closer, a person, dangling from a
string, will become clearer and clearer, until the parachute he or
she is manning has touched ground. While we would love nothing more
than to be able to offer sky-diving lessons, here at Campus Kids, we have
not abandoned the parachute completely. |

|
Usually, you see
the underside of the parachute when in use, but an aerial view will
show a group of people huddled at the edges of the colorful cloth.
|
|
These are parachute games. |
|
|
There are two
popular games that are played, this first of which is Cat and Mouse.
The cat, as seen in the picture, crawls on the top of the parachute. |
|
|
Then, three
campers, playing mice, scurry under, and try to avoid being tagged by the
cat. Last mouse crawling wins. |
The second game
has no name. In it, all players stand at the outer edge of the
parachute. One player will shout out a characteristic. This
could be birth month, name, physical characteristic, etc. |
|
|
Everyone who does
not fit the description lifts up the parachute. |
Those who fit the
description must run under the lifted parachute, and find a new place to
stand before the parachute drops. |
|
|
Some do not quite
make it. |
But do, in the end, escape. |
|
|
Others find
sanctuary in the depths of the colorful parachute. |
When a
characteristic like "Wearing a bathing suit" is called (these groups had
swim instruction next), the parachute can get lost, due to lack of people
holding it. |
|
|
Many are
skeptical of a game entitled "Parachute Games", but after they try it,
skeptics soon turn to players, many of whom can be found running and
crawling through the folds of the parachute. |
