The Sunken Lounge Earns its Reputation

This year, camp has been riddled with thunderstorms, rain, lightning, thunder, and everything else Mother Nature seems to like to throw our way.  Wednesday night was no different.  It was, perhaps, the most violent rain, combined with frequent lightning and thunder, that camp has seen in these short three weeks.  As campers scurried back to their dorms, towels waving overhead to avoid the rain, we heard an odd sound coming from down the hall.  We stood, after having left canteen, wondering what the sound was.  It sounded like water slowly running, but from where?

This sign usually is put out to avoid slipping from a freshly mopped floor.  But that night, it signaled something else.

The Sunken Lounge was under water.

That was an exaggeration.  A leak had apparently sent a great deal of water rushing into the Sunken Lounge.

"They don't call it the sunken lounge for nothing," said Jeremy (numerous times) as he playfully splashed the murky water in the direction of this cameraman.

While water continued to rush into the area where Chess, Digital Photo, and numerous other activities take place, our party left, and the Centenary maintenance crew came and fixed the leak.

And by the next day, everything was back to normal.
With the exception of a few water marks.

Each week, Stu writes a column entitled "Blast From the Past".  In a few years, this will probably be a feature, with a title punning the phrase sunken lounge, like it was done so many times by those who were there.
