On the very first day of camp,
while the entire camp huddled in the gym for announcements on account of the
rain, the "The 2006 Campus Kids World Cup of 'Some call it Futbol,
others call it Soccer', but really it's just kicking a ball. Wonders of the
Ancient World Soccer Tournament." It began with six teams.
Throughout the weeks, as the competition heated up, four teams, the Hungry
Hanging Gardens of Babylon, Really Great Pyramids of Giza, Sensational
Statues of Zeus, and the Colossal Colossus of Rhodes were eliminated.
On Friday, the two remaining teams played each other in the Campus Kids
World Cup. |
|
The remaining two teams lined up
to have their names read to a cheering audience. These two remaining
teams were the Fighting Pharaohs of Alexandra and the Mighty Mausoleums of
Halicarnassus. |
The referees for the match were
Ryan and Paul, assisted by linesmen Alex and Dave. |
|
|
The teams had been preparing
custom uniforms, and were prepared for the game. |
With DJ's and announcers in
place, the match was ready to begin. |
|
It took little time for the game
to get fully underway. The night before, Staff Assistants has been
searching frantically for nail clippers. Had they been at this
nail-biter of a game, those nail clippers would have been obsolete. |

There were some very close calls. |
|
|
And some great plays. |
And while the crowd cheered and
watched, there was only one goal scored. |
|
|
That goal was scored by the
Fighting Pharaohs' own Jack G. |
And that was all they needed to
secure a victory. |
These are the team shots for
all six contenders. The illustrious and elusive Web Photo
Journalist can be found amongst the teams. |
